Cosmetic Laser Surgery Options
Cosmetic laser surgery is another relatively new tool in the fight
against aging. Though they were originally developed for medical uses
like laser eye surgery and cataract removal, lasers have now become important
tools in the cosmetic surgery world.
Laser resurfacing is one popular and relatively new type of cosmetic laser surgery.
This procedure involves removing the outer layers of the skin that contain fine
lines caused by sun damage and by the general aging process. Once the
outer layers are removed, the smoother layers underneath are exposed, giving
the skin a younger appearance. This process involves several courses of
treatment. The results are not immediate, but once the entire course of
treatment is complete, lines are typically greatly reduced.
Eyelid surgery is another type of cosmetic laser surgery. This procedure
is used to remove skin and underlying fat from the upper eyelids. This
corrects sagging, giving a younger appearance to the patient. This procedure
is also used to remove excess fat from the lower lids as well. This corrects
puffiness or the appearance of bags under the eyes.
Cosmetic laser surgery can also be used to remove unwanted tattoos. A
variety of lasers are used to remove the different colors in the tattoos.
Results are permanent, but some traces of the tattoo may still be slightly visible
after the treatment is complete.
Cosmetic laser surgery can also be used to remove unsightly veins in the legs.
These veins are unpreventable, typically a result of pregnancy, taking birth
control pills, or from being overweight. These veins are often simply
hereditary. Varicose veins or spider veins can be removed by using a non-invasive
laser procedure. This means of removing them is relatively new and has
proven less painful than the injection methods of the past.
