Also known as LASIK, laser eye surgery is used to improve or completely correct
a patient’s vision by altering the shape of the cornea. The procedure

outer layer of the cornea with a laser. The doctor peels back the flap,
and uses another laser to cut away at the inner layers of the cornea.
He removes bits from various places on the cornea, depending on whether the
patient is nearsighted or farsighted. Depending on the specific abnormalities,
the surgeon reshapes the cornea so light is focused correctly on the retina.
Once the cornea has been reshaped, the flap is returned to its original position,
and it heals itself without the aid of stitches. The whole procedure can
be completed in less than one minute per eye. The success rates for laser
surgery eyes procedures are very high. Patients almost always obtain a
greater ranger of vision after the surgery, often times achieving completely
corrected vision. Some patients no longer require the use of contact lenses

much less recovery time. The procedure can be performed on an outpatient
basis, and patients can typically see within hours of the procedure’s
completion. Some people elect to have both eyes operated on at the same
time, but many doctors recommend that each eye be done separately just in case
complications arise during the surgery.
